Our exhibition is Belgian Art History in cartoons. 'From the Flemish Masters till the comic strip' is on show at the French 'Salon de l'Humour de Saint Just Le Martel'

The travelling exhibition “Belgian Art History in Cartoons. From the Flemish Masters to the Comic Strip” will be presented this autumn at the prestigious Salon International de la Caricature, du Dessin de Presse et d’Humour in Saint-Just-le-Martel, France.

For this project, Belgian cartoonists were invited to create works inspired by our own art history. From more than one hundred submissions, an international jury selected fifty cartoons to form this touring exhibition.

With this exhibition, we aim to offer both the general public and cartoon enthusiasts a representative showcase of Belgian cartoon art, while at the same time sparking curiosity about Belgium’s artistic heritage. Names such as Van Eyck, Magritte and Tintin are familiar worldwide, but how well known are artists like Félicien Rops, Panamarenko or Wim Delvoye?

The exhibition is organized by the European Cartoon Center (ECC) with the goal of promoting Belgian cartoon art abroad.

An international jury of cartoonists and curators selected the participating works. The following cartoonists are featured in the exhibition: Philippe Bossens, Marc De Bel, Leon De Borger, Luc Descheemaeker, Hans Dierick, Raphaël Donay, Patrick Heymans, Tony Houbrechts, Jean-Claude Salemi, Stijn Lauwers, Marc Ghijsels, Jan Op de Beeck, Stefaan Provijn, Constantin Sunnerberg, Tony Tasco, Wouter Van Ghysegem, Norbert Van Yperzeele, Trui Vanden Berghe, Eric Vandenberghe, Bert Vanstiphout, François Veldeman, Luc Vernimmen and Geert Verscheure-Stefaan Veys.
