Hats off for Javad Takjoo who's cartoon was choosen as the winner out 2659 cartoons
The grand winner of the 25th Euro-kartoenale Kruishoutem is Javad Takjoo from Iran. His romantic interpretation of the theme “The Hat – Hats Off!” charmed the jury and brought smiles all around. He received a trophy and a cash prize of €2,100.
No less than one-third more participants than the previous edition!
With 728 participating cartoonists from 82 countries across five continents, there was once again great interest in this 25th edition of the Euro-kartoenale Kruishoutem. The international jury had to select from no fewer than 2,659 cartoons submitted from all over the world—a task that was anything but easy.
Once again, Iranian cartoonists led the way in terms of participant numbers, closely followed by artists from Turkey, Germany, and Belgium.
Javad Takjoo from Iran was the grand winner
So the first prize was awarded to an Iranian cartoonist: Javad Takjoo. He received a trophy and a cash prize of €2,100.
He approached the theme ‘The Hat – Hats Off!’ in a highly original way, adding a romantic touch. Combined with his beautiful graphic style, the jury was instantly won over. This cartoon brings an immediate smile to your face.
The second prize takes us to South America, where Colombian cartoonist Elena Ospina convinced the jury with a colorful interpretation of Noah’s Ark. Third place went to Serbian artist Jugoslav Vlahovic with a rather absurd cartoon. The best entry from the European Union came from Shahrokh Heidari Sorjani in Reims. KUSTO from Ukraine won the ECC Prize.
Stefaan Provijn from Sint-Martens Latem created the Best Belgian cartoon. Pieter Lefevere from Kruisem received an honorable mention, along with Ross Thomson (UK) and Emil Idzikowski (Poland)
Life Time Achievement Award
Ross Thomson was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his highly distinguished career as an internationally acclaimed cartoonist
