For the ECC, it was a tremendous honor in 2007, for our very first exhibition, to be able to present work by the world‑famous Argentine cartoonist Guillermo Mordillo (1932–2019). The artist was personally present at the time, which made the opening an unforgettable moment. That first exhibition marked the starting point for dozens of shows featuring top cartoonists from all corners of the world.
Mordillo is no longer with us, but the universe lives on through the many cartoon books that were left behind. Anyone who wants to get acquainted with cartoons for the first time cannot go wrong here. Colorful, imaginative, funny, kind, and never offensive—that is Mordillo in a nutshell. The little characters with their iconic big noses and the delightfully absurd animals invariably bring a smile to every viewer’s face.
A reindeer taking a bath with Santa Claus, Tarzan swinging on an elephant’s trunk, a giraffe in a football kit, a football pitch on a mountaintop or on top of a skyscraper… In Mordillo’s world, anything is possible.
Opus 1 is one of the many Mordillo books you can discover in our library—and guaranteed to make your day a little brighter.
