Florian Doru Crihana was born in 1958 in GalaÅ£i, Romania. He graduated naval architecture, but Florian is a cartoonist since 1990 when he gave up his engineer job and dedicated to cartoon and painting. His works were exhibited near famous artist of all time like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Gustave Dore, William Hogarth, Ralf Steadman, Sempé,.... He is the winner of over 70 international prizes and he displayed solo exhibitions in Warsaw and Gabrovo. He is famous for his long series of satirical works.

He is considering himself as a satiric artist, a creator of surrealistic and poetic images.

“I choose the topics very carefully. The choice of the themes is a process that takes months. I don’t hurry. The theme is always about the impact on the public with contemporary society and my ability to address the subject. The artist must be surprising, he must go against the tide, to show the public what they see but don’t realize.”

The ECC presents now for the first time his series about “Venice”, ‘The Snowman” and “Titanic” in one big exhibition.

Venice” came first. “It is a topic that cartoonists treat with simplicity. I wanted more: to realize the atmosphere works for gain in quality. I gave this time more attention to the landscape background.” As to Florian.

Snowman” is about his childhood - a very special period says Florian. “In treating the theme I was influenced by the world evolution, but I inserted absurd humor as well. I always remained a little bit child. I will always go back to my childhood.”

“With the “Titanic” I wanted to make a large scale demonstration of a satirical approach, from a romantic topic. What encouraged me in this issue was my knowledge of naval architecture. It caught my attention as a topic that is not addressed to a cartoonist, but rather to an artist-engineer. It is the world gathered symbolic on a ship, with endless reasons to criticize the human behavior.”
