Previous exhibitions - Cartoons from Slowakia
From 04 april till 20 june 2021
During the Euro-Kartoenale Kruishoutem we always want to put a host country in the spotlight. Each edition, a new curator is appointed who knows very well the cartoons and cartoonists from the host country. This year Slovak Peter Ràzus was asked to organize an exhibition of some 80 works from his home country.
Peter is the driving force behind the International Cartoon Contest "Brain Sneezing" and the "Brain Sneezing Gallery" in the provincial town of Présov. Together with his wife Magda, he is passionate about cartoons and the creativity that a cartoonist's brain can fabricate. The competition was restarted a few years ago and has since grown into a highly appreciated contest with a very high quality. It is therefore the world leaders who participate in this competition. The themes often have a philosophical tinge and make you think.
Cartoon exhibitions are also organized at regular intervals in the gallery, annex café. Our own exhibition 'Cartoons from Belgium' was also on view there.
Ràzus invited 12 contemporary Slovak cartoonists to the exhibition: Andrej Misanek, Bobo Pernecky, Fero Jablonovsky, Ivan Chadziev, Jozef Gruspier, Laco Torma, Michal Barvircak, Peter Homoloa, Rado Repicky, Roman Sika, Vlado Pavlik and Vojtech Krumpolec. A varied group of cartoonists, each with their own style, who give us a glimpse of what the Slovak cartoon looks like.
You can visit the exhibition in the ECC from 4 April till 20 June 2021, every Sunday from 10 till 12am and from 2 till 5pm, only on reservation. More info...
