Vasco Gargalo is a Portuguese cartoonist born in Vila Franca de Xira in 1977.

 

Many of his political cartoons have been published in the Portuguese and international press. He has worked for Sábado, Correio da Manha, Sol, Expresso Newspaper, Le Monde Diplomatique, Courrier International, Groene Amsterdammer, Dromos Newspaper, Le Temps (Switzerland), and others, and he is a regular contributor to The Cartoon Movement and Cartooning for Peace.

 

He recently won the International cartoon contest ‘Against Forced Labor’ and in 2022 he was awarded at the European Cartoon Award- competition for press cartoons.  In 2019, he received the audience award for best press drawing from the Courrier International in Strasbourg ‘Plumes libres pour la démocratie’. In our country, he won the Silver Hat at the 57th Cartoon Festival in Knokke. Cartoon Home Network International proclaimed him the best European cartoonist.

 

This track record demonstrates Vasco Gargalo's commitment to making a difference with his cartoons: "My main purpose is to draw in favour of freedom of expression and peace".

 

The exhibition at the ECC can be visited from 30 June till 15 September 2024, every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
